The City of Fayetteville, Tennessee, established in 1809, has grown into a vibrant community of more than 7,000 residents and is the largest city in Lincoln County. To support future growth and address aging infrastructure, the city’s municipal water system is undergoing extensive rehabilitation. City officials are focused on replacing outdated pipes while ensuring service continuity throughout the project.
Solution to the Issue
To minimize disruption, engineers designed a network of strategic control points that allow water flow to be shut off or rerouted as needed. This approach ensures that the fewest possible properties are affected at any given time. Traditionally, installing valves requires cutting out a section of pipe, inserting line stops to prevent excessive water loss, and then installing a new pipe section with the valve. Insertion valves, however, offer a modern solution—they can be installed without shutting off the water flow. The AVT EZ Valve stands out in this category. Its lightweight, low-profile design allows installation in smaller excavations, reducing both cost and time. Fayetteville partnered with Workman’s Water Services, experienced AVT EZ Valve installers, to complete the project. The team successfully installed a full 10-valve system in just one day. AVT EZ Valves feature integrated isolation gates. After a slot is milled across the pipe, the gate closes, enabling removal of the low-profile end milling machine and installation of the bonnet with a resilient wedge—all while maintaining water flow.
