Summary of the EZ Valve Installation Project
- 4-inch EZ Valve installed on cast iron water line
- In-situ valve inoperable
- 600 properties-maintained water supply
Urgent need to close a valve
When Severn Trent urgently needed to close a valve, they found it to be inoperable. The company was faced with two options, cut in a new valve, or install an insertion valve.
To install traditional valves, water system operators need to physically cut out a section of pipe before installing line stops to prevent too much water loss, before installing a new section of pipe with a valve installed. Insertion valves are a category of valve that are installed without shutting off the flow.
For this reason, Severn Trent, with a region that stretches across the heart of the UK, from the
Bristol Channel to the Humber, and from the Welsh border to the East Midlands, chose to install an insertion valve.
The company called on AVT’s UK distributor R2M to help. The company supplied a 4-inch AVT EZ Valve which was installed by their partner R2M site services on the 4-inch cast iron pipe.
AVT EZ Valves are insertion valves that are installed without the need to shut off the water flow. The valves use integrated isolation gates, which when closed after a slot has been milled across the pipe, allows the low-profile EM (end milling) machine to be removed and the bonnet with a resilient wedge to be installed, all while the flow is maintained.
The installation on the EZ Valve meant more than 600 properties were able to maintain their water supply.
