Summary

These pipeline was part of an offshore tanker filling station. The piping was suffering from external corrosion at the water/air interface. Pipeline risers were at risk of structural failure and could have developed into catastrophic blowouts, and environmental hazards.

CSNRI team of engineers designed repairs for each riser according to ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1, and recommended a DiamondWrap® repair solution. Eleven kits of DiamondWrap® were required to repair the defects, one kit on each corroded riser.

A team of trained and certified installers layered carbon fiber over the specified repair area, according to the calculations prepared by CSNRI engineers. No heavy equipment or hot work was required for the installation, and the line was in operation with no disruption in production.

The DiamondWrap® carbon fiber repair has enabled the pipeline to safely maintain full production. This saved the operator valuable pipeline operation time, while ensuring the integrity of the risers with a long-term design life.
